Located in the heart of Phoenix on E Cactus Rd, Cactus Tavern is a vibrant American bar & grill that perfectly blends the casual energy of a sports bar with the comforting flavors of a neighborhood pub. This lively spot is a haven for those craving classic American fare with a distinct twist, paired with an impressive lineup of drinks and a welcoming atmosphere that invites friends, locals, and regulars to gather and unwind.
Step inside and you’re greeted by a warm, approachable setting outfitted with high-top tables, large TVs showing the latest games, a pool table, and even an electronic dart board – a true playground for sports fans and social butterflies alike. This is not a family dining spot, but rather a place where adults can relax, enjoy a cold beer, or savor expertly mixed cocktails like a bold Bloody Mary or smooth Jameson Irish Whiskey with a fresh lime.
When it comes to food, Cactus Tavern delivers with hearty, handcrafted dishes that burst with flavor and texture. Their Shrimp Basket, beloved by many, boasts fresh, hand-battered shrimp fried to a perfect golden crispiness, often served with crunchy onion strings – a delightful upgrade to the standard fries. Fans of burgers will appreciate the 1000 Island Burger with Bacon, a juicy creation layered with savory bacon and tangy sauce that hits all the right notes, or the Texas Burger that embodies a bold, satisfying bite.
If tacos are more your style, Cactus Tavern’s menu shines with variety and ingenuity. The Tacos Al Pastor feature tender pork marinated in pineapple adobada, creating a beautiful balance of smoky and sweet that pairs wonderfully with fresh guacamole and their house-made tortilla chips. For seafood lovers, the Shrimp Tacos and Fish Tacos come dressed with spicy slaw salad, offering a crisp, refreshing counterpoint to the rich fillings.
Dessert lovers are not forgotten here, with tantalizing options like the creamy Tiramisu – layered mascarpone and espresso soaked ladyfingers with hints of Belgian chocolate and Kahlua – and the zesty Cheesecake Ricotta, which combines lemoncello and lemon zest for a bright, velvety finish to your meal.
What truly makes Cactus Tavern stand out is its unpretentious vibe and genuine hospitality. Regulars describe it as a “fantastic little neighborhood bar,” a “hole in the wall in the best way,” and a comfortable hangout where bartenders are attentive, the kitchen is quick, and the mood is always cheerful and inviting. Whether you’re meeting friends for a laid-back lunch, craving a flavorful dinner, or simply searching for a spirited place to catch a game, Cactus Tavern offers a delightful blend of comfort food, friendly service, and spirited fun that keeps patrons coming back time and again.
I had the shrimp basket with onion string substituted for fries which was a small uncharge. The place is a bar setting with all high top tables. Not appropriate for kids but don't we all need that kind of place! The food was really good, clearly hand battered and fresh fried actual shrimp and the onion strings were crisp and tasty. This qualifies as a hole in the wall bar and grill in the best way. Food was great and I will eat there again!
A fantastic little neighborhood bar. Very comfortable place for me to go and sit at the bar even when my Mom wants to meet up for lunch. Wonderful Vibe in the place. Everyone is always happy and friendly, especially the bartender. Plenty of Nice TVs for sports. A Pool Table. An electronic Dart Board. And everything we have both tried onnthe menu has been really tasty so far. And you will NEVER wait for a refill in this Tavern. Smile I highly recommend this little gem.
This was my Uncle Alan Jones favorite bar and place to go hang out and play pool and darts. We came today to see if it's still the same as it was. The food was bomb and drinks were on point. Music in the background and TV on around the place. Nice lighting and chill mood. Enjoyed every bit of it. Thanks for the hospitality we loved coming into your place.
For a dive-bar, it was clean and had nice decor. The bartender handled the bar area as well as the seating area with no problem getting additional beverages when we needed them. The staff was friendly and speedy. Food was hot and quick coming out of the kitchen. I had the fish fry on a friday. It was flavorful, hot and crispy.
A friend moved and this became our middle ground recently. This was our first time here, and what a surprise! I certainly wasn’t expecting our nachos to be so tasty. Chips made from scratch—some had the edged extra crispy and pretty much had that home made taste. We got the al pastor, since we’ve never had that kind of meat on nachos. It was a big portion and between two of us, we couldn’t finish. We each had 2 drinks and called it a day. The atmosphere is comfortable, almost like a “where everybody knows your name” kind of place. Our bartenders (Holly and Molly) were so attentive, friendly and generally amazing. There are pool tables, TVs and many friendly locals. This definitely will be a spot to be a regular.
This place is a dive bar without the dive. It's clean and inviting. Bartenders are great and food is fantastic. I love the shrimp cocktail that is like ceviche with shrimp. The fish and chips is great too!
Looking for that perfect little neighborhood spot where everybody knows your name? Say hello to Cactus Tavern off Cave Creek—aka the Arizona Cheers! The vibe here is super chill, cozy, and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel like part of the family the moment you walk in. The regulars are friendly, the staff greets you with a smile, and before long you’ll probably find yourself coming back again and again. Now let’s talk food. The menu is not only tasty but seriously affordable. I grabbed the Fish & Chips for just $11.99—crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned. At that price, it’s a total steal! Plus, they’ve got weekly specials that keep things fresh and exciting, so there’s always something new to try. But what really won me over was the service. The servers are absolute gems—kind, helpful, and genuinely happy to take care of you. I even managed to spill my water and make a HUGE mess but instead of being annoyed, they jumped right in with smiles and laughter to help me clean up. That’s the kind of hospitality you don’t forget. And if you’re looking for more than just food and drinks, Cactus Cavern has you covered. They’ve got a pool table and darts, perfect for hanging out with friends or meeting new ones. There’s even a photo wall filled with memories that shows just how much fun people have here. Bottom line: Cactus Tavern = great food, great prices, great people. It’s the perfect mix of local charm and neighborhood comfort. Whether you’re grabbing a meal, playing a game, or just relaxing with a drink, this place makes you feel right at home.
Moved into the neighborhood and was intrigued driving by a few times: "Sweet, a hole in the wall dive-ish sports bar?". Popped in today and the place exceeded my expectations. Casual, clean, fun environment, but what about the food? I ordered their fried and grilled wings and legitimately the first bite I let out a "holy shit". As a self proclaimed wing snob, these are TOP TIER. I'm looking forward to trying some of their other menu items. Will be back!
